The Joker is getting a new, gritty backstory starring Joaquin Phoenix. Ledger is obscured behind opaque glass, but spy pics from the set initially revealed Ledger without much makeup on while shooting the opening bank heist sequence. It's messy, though not as insane death-metal as that sported by Heath Ledger's version of the DC Comics villain. Many a tune was changed once people finally saw the movie. His appearance seems to be a mixture of the Joker played by Cesar Romero in the '60 TV series and the one played by Heath Ledger in 2008's The Dark Knight. Do you think this is his final look?

The film's director, David Ayer, revealed the first official photo of Jared Leto as the Joker via Twitter in 2015, and the reaction was immediate and unrelenting.

The makeup looks to have a very red, white and blue color scheme. And there's no insane tattoos saying "Damaged" either. Up until now, we've only seen Joaquin Phoenix in his Arthur Fleck days both in set pictures and in a portrait released by Phillips himself. Pictures' Joker, starring Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix in the title role, alongside Oscar victor Robert De Niro, and directed, produced and co-written by Oscar nominee Todd Phillips.

It is said that the movie will take place in Gotham City in the 1980s and follow Arthur Fleck's journey on becoming the Joker.

Now, Phillips has shared a camera test in which we get a look at Phoenix in full Joker makeup.

The Joker director Todd Phillips is now dealing with that as he shoots the Batman spinoff movie in New York City, surrounded by photographers who have posted tons of pictures and videos of the film already.
