'I'm not going anywhere' after latest misconduct allegation

"I've never sexually assaulted anyone, in high school or otherwise", he said four times in the span of 60 seconds, with minor variations.

Kavanaugh is scheduled to appear before the committee on Thursday to defend himself against an allegation of sexual assault against him by Palo Alto University professor Christine Blasey Ford.

"I was never at any such party".

"After six days of carefully assessing her memories and consulting with her attorney, Ramirez said that she felt confident enough of her recollections to say that she remembers Kavanaugh had exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party, thrust his penis in her face, and caused her to touch it without her consent as she pushed him away". Deborah said she and Kavanaugh both attended a women's soccer team dorm room party while freshmen at Yale.

Just hours later, The New Yorker dropped a new bombshell, reporting that a second woman was accusing the Washington appeals court judge of sexual misconduct, while they were students at Yale University around 1983-84.

"I'm not going to let false accusations drive us out of this process", he added, repeatedly calling for a "fair process".

"There's a chance that this could be one of the single most unfair, unjust things to happen to a candidate, but I am with Judge Kavanaugh", Trump said. "I am the leader in the entire country of promoting women law clerks to get Supreme Court clerkships", he said.

And when asked about the allegations revealed by a second accuser in an article in The New Yorker on Sunday, the president dismissed them.

It said that the allegation came to the attention of Democratic senators through a civil rights lawyer.

"Ramirez said that she continued to socialize with one of the male classmates who had egged Kavanaugh on during the party during college; she even invited the classmate to her house for Thanksgiving one year, after he told her that he had nowhere to go". Kavanaugh has denied the claim, and since three other women have come out alleging misconduct.

Her allegation against the conservative federal appeals court judge has endangered his confirmation by the Republican-led Senate to a lifetime job on the top USA court.

"Certainly we would be open to that, and that process could take place on Thursday", Sanders said during an appearance on ABC's Good Morning America, adding: "The president has been clear, let them speak".

"I did not have sexual intercourse or anything close to sexual intercourse in high school or for many years thereafter".

However, with elections approaching, Kavanaugh's rejection would give Republicans little time to select a new nominee for confirmation before the end of December, when the current Senate session ends.

Trump, at a photo op during his visit to the United Nations, said the accusations were part of a "con game being played by Democrats".

"So Kavanaugh gets confirmed to the Supreme Court, OK?"

In a statement provided by the White House, Kavanaugh said the event "did not happen" and that the allegation was "a smear, plain and simple".

His nomination and the claims of sexual misconduct have stirred up women and liberal voters whose antipathy to Republicans has already been heightened by Trump's policies and his own fraught history of alleged sexual transgressions.

Republicans hold a slim 51-49 Senate majority, meaning Kavanaugh's confirmation prospects may hinge on the votes of a handful of moderate Republican senators who have not yet announced their intentions, These include Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski and Jeff Flake.

The Kavanaugh confirmation fight comes just weeks before November 6 congressional elections in which Democrats are trying to take control of Congress from Republicans, against a backdrop of the #MeToo movement fighting sexual harassment and assault. Neither Dr. Blasey Ford nor Judge Kavanaugh is on trial. Both accusers have acknowledged memory lapses which could weaken their claims.
