Amazon's "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", about a 1950s housewife who turns to standup comedy, took home the Emmy for best comedy series.

HBO's "Game of Thrones" was named best drama series, beating last year's champion 'The Handmaid's Tale'.

Johansson's partner, 36-year-old Jost, is co-hosting the event alongside his comedian colleague Michael Che.

It was a big night for the true-crime show, which also took home best limited series.

Claire Foy beat Moss to win for her quiet but formidable portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in Netflix drama "The Crown".

As Bill Hader went up to the stage to receive his Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, he leaned over to give a hug to none other than Perkins. And George R.R. Martin for creating this whole thing'. It did not. Atlanta ended up with three awards overall. That breaks the programme's own record as the most decorated fictional show since the Television Academy first handed out prizes in 1949.

Issa Rae of HBO's "Insecure" or ABC's "black-ish" star Tracee Ellis Ross could become the second African-American to win as best comedy actress, following Isabel Sanford (1981, "The Jeffersons") by 37 years. "When we win a Golden Globe, it helps us sell more shoes", Bezos said at an industry conference in 2016. "It's something that's happening all over the country right now". And if you haven't seen it already, add Nanette to your Netflix queue.

"Saturday Night Live" cast members Kate McKinnon and Kenan Thompson did a jokey song and dance number titled "We Solved It".

"This year, the audience is allowed to drink in their seats".

Their monologue kicked off the 70th Annual Emmy Awards.

Looking to boost audience ratings, Emmys organisers said they were hoping to shake up the broadcast - and indeed they did, intentionally and unintentionally. "I think that you do need to strike a balance. Because I want to call you my wife", he declared to his bewildered and ecstatic partner Jan Svendsen. "She's the best", he continued.

As for the rest of the G.O.T crew: Kit Harrington looked dashing in a classic black suit and tie; the always handsome Nikolaj Coster-Waldau went with a show-stopping golden velvet jacket and black dress trousers; Nathalie Emmanuel showed off her amazingly toned figure in a strapless black gown; and G.O.T author George R.R. Martin looked distinguished in a black pinstripe suit.

Hosted by Saturday Night Live's Michael Che and Colin Jost, the ceremony featured plenty of snubs and surprises and so no one knew quite what to expect when it came time to announce the victor of Outstanding Drama Series, which eventually went to Game of Thrones.
