Canelo vs. Golovkin 2 - "The REMATCH"

Canelo and Alvarez square off at 8 p.m. ET. Despite the draw, Golovkin retained his WBA (Super), WBC, and IBO middleweight titles.

Whilst the selection of judges remained a hot topic during the negotiations for the rematch, both fighters have promised the scorecards won't be needed this time around, with both looking to cement their status as the world's best with a fearsome knockout.

The 2004 Olympic silver medallist, (38-0-1, 34 knockouts), has repeatedly accused his Mexican opponent of doping, raising the temperature in Las Vegas this week by voicing his suspicions again. His only loss was to Floyd Mayweather in September 2013.

In what is already being billed as a potential fight of the century, both Golovkin and Alvarez have been extremely vocal in the build-up to the clash about the other fighter, as well as how they see the fight planning out.

Alvarez was ultimately suspended for six months by the Nevada Athletic Commission. It sparked a debate that left Golovkin openly questioning an excuse about contaminated meat in Mexico and whether Alvarez was clean for their first fight.

When they finally do meet Saturday night it will be with some hard feelings on both sides that didn't surface in the first fight.

"I'm going to go in there to knock him out", Alvarez said.

A more aggressive approach from Alvarez, however, may well play into Golovkin's hands. It has caused a river of bad blood.

Golovkin is a slight favourite heading into Saturday's rematch. Byrd's one-sided card ruined what was a competitive bout.

Anticipated to be one of the biggest fights of the year, the encounter has taken on added spice with Golovkin accusing Canelo of disrespecting boxing fans after his two failed drugs test scuppered original plans for a rematch in May earlier this year.

Golovkin said when Alvarez and his team approached him, "All I could feel was fear from them, and I think they did it so I couldn't look into his eyes and he couldn't look into mine".

"I had a great experience from the first fight", Golovkin said. "I've got to make sure when he's vulnerable I take advantage of that".

A rematch between Canelo and Golovkin was subsequently agreed that would have seen the two foes face off on May 5th in a fight perfectly poised to light up boxing's fabled Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Alvarez must prove his career has been authentic. His has tweaked Alvarez by saying many of his former fans are now "GGG" fans.

"People can support who they want", he said, "but the authentic Mexican will be supporting the Mexican".
