After antagonizing Alvarez throughout the emotional promotion of their 12-round rematch, Sanchez applauded Alvarez's effort in winning a majority decision over Golovkin in an action-packed battle Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.

The Mexican claimed a frenetic final round on two of the three scorecards which was critical in preventing a repeat of the draw both men shared 364 days earlier at the same T-Mobile Arena venue.

He was given a six-month suspension that ended on August 17.

"I feel satisfied because I gave a great fight", he said through an interpreter.

Tonight, Canelo was handed a majority decision victory in a fight that he again did not win. "I think we controlled the fight".

And asked on whether or not there will be a rematch, he said: "If the people want another fight then we'll do it again".

However, as the bout transpired, the two fighters were neck and neck. After 12 hard-fought rounds of boxing, the fight resulted in a Split Draw decision, albeit a controversial one.

Khan was impressed by the quality of the fight and lauded Canelo for his gameplan.

He took control with a dominant spell in the middle rounds before holding off Golovkin down the stretch to claim a 114-114, 115-113, 115-113 win.

Note: Golovkin has taken 8-stitches, the cut was 5 cm. long on his right eye. "I thought I fought better than he did". Very exciting. Canelo surprised us all with the come forward pressure game plan. Ultimate competitors in @Canelo @GGGBoxing! "Could watch y'all fight any day". Some very close rounds that could have went either way.

Fingers crossed a third fight comes to fruition for the pair in May 2019.

"Look, the judges were good judges", said Abel Sanchez, Golovkin's trainer.

Canelo, surrounded by his overjoyed entourage, had the middleweight belts strapped around his waist and draped over his shoulder. You can stream the fight online via FITE.
