The console "perfectly mirrors" the original console but it's 45% smaller than the original PlayStation that shipped in 1994. They followed it up with a mini SNEs, but we've also seen a mini Mega drives, tiny Neo Geos and now, a PlayStation classic.

The release date is now set for December 3, with pre-orders available in the USA and Canada at US$99.99, but regional availability will be announced soon. The trouble, of course, is deciding which other games do the PS1 era justice, all while making room for Sony's own solid exclusives.

The design of the miniature console resembles the original, including the button layout, two included controllers, and outer package. It'll be available from December 3, and will include Ridge Racer Type 3, Final Fantasy 7 and Tekken 3.

The PlayStation Classic is now announced to release in Malaysia on December 3 with further regional availability to be announced at a later date.

'All of the pre-loaded games will be playable in their original format, ' the company said. It comes with two original PS1 controllers for local multiplayer with compatible titles and an HDMI cable.

Sony has announced five games so far. The power and reset buttons work as described but the open/eject button doesn't pop up a mini-CD/DVD lid, it just allows you to swap "virtual discs".

It is shipping for $99.99 in the USA, while the United Kingdom version costs just under £89.99.

The console is now available for pre-order in Japan, Europe, the U.S., and United Kingdom ahead of its release December 3.

The original Sony PlayStation One (right) was the first console to sell 100 million units worldwide.

The mini console is all the rage these days.
