Truth isn't truth, says Donald Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Russian Federation probe

And yet, as Chuck Todd shook his head in amazement and tried to get Giuliani to understand what he was saying, the president's lawyer remind blissfully oblivious, denying things he'd just said. "So tell me what the truth is!"

Escalating demands for Mueller to end his investigation, Giuliani gave the special counsel a 24-hour ultimatum, following the release of a watchdog report into the FBI's handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server. However, attorneys Giuliani and Jay Sekulow have expressed reluctance for him to do so.

Todd insisted: "Truth is truth", Giuliani responded: "Truth isn't truth".

TODD: This is going to become a bad meme. Giuliani insisted, as he has on previous occasions per CNN, that Mueller would attempt to set a "perjury trap" for Trump if Trump were to testify in the Special Counsel's investigation into collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russian Federation. "Truth isn't truth. The President of the United States says, "I didn't..."

Trump's acknowledgment raised new questions on the extent of Russia's attempts to influence the election, including any legal or moral obligation for his campaign to submit offers of foreign assistance to authorities.

"Truth is truth", Todd said. Truth isn't truth. Donald Trump says, "I didn't talk about Flynn with Comey".

In the Meet The Press interview, Todd attempted to ask Giuliani why Trump would be concerned about a "perjury trap" if he did not intend to lie to the Special Counsel.

He pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is cooperating with Mueller's probe.

The context in which the "truth isn't truth" remark was made reveals to what situation Giuliani was speaking - a time when there may be two conflicting statements, and investigators must decide who they believe. Comey says you did talk about it.

He was referring to a conversation former FBI Director James Comey said he had with Trump in the White House in February 2017. Keeping in mind that the job of the president's lawyer is to try to dismiss potentially damaging evidence such as the infamous Trump Tower meeting, Giuliani did the exact opposite. "And of course any meeting with regards to getting information on your opponent is something any candidate's staff would take".

And then it came, like manna from heaven, the glorious mantra for which Trump's White House has been waiting so long.

With regard to Giuliani's claim that Trump should not be interviewed by Mueller due to a "perjury trap", Eliason dismissed Giuliani's defense.
