A "source" told The Daily Beast that Franklin said "no amount of money" would persuade her to perform for him at the inauguration.

Twitter user Charlotte Clymer also wrote: "In the span of seven hours, @FoxNews has lambasted "communist Japan" and confused Patti Labelle for Aretha Franklin, and we're all kinda just like, 'Yeah, that's Fox'".

The first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, Franklin's voice was declared one of Michigan's important "natural resources" two years before.

"I'm sorry, Poppy. I just woke up and got the news".

For Franklin, her music and her past, were inextricably linked to her respect to all the people who helped raise her.

LaBelle shared her condolences after the Respect singer's death. It makes you sit back and think about every time you might've low-balled yourself to make yourself available and useful for other's needs and wants or all the times you wanted a job to take you instead of you taking the job.

Franklin - an 18-time Grammy victor with a clear, rich voice able to span musical genres - influenced generations of singers with unforgettable hits including "Respect" (1967), "Natural Woman" (1968) and "I Say a Little Prayer" (1968).

After Trump's somewhat tone-deaf tribute, people were appreciating the heartwarming messages made by both Hilary and Bill Clinton and by former president Barack Obama who held a close friendship with Aretha. She will then be entombed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit, alongside her father, Rev. C.L. Franklin; brother Cecil Franklin; sisters Carolyn Franklin and Erma Franklin; and nephew, Thomas Garrett.

Franklin sang at the event, called "In Performance at the White House: Women of Soul", but LaBelle and Franklin never shared the stage. In 2010, Rolling Stone magazine put her at the top of its list of the 100 greatest singers of all time, male or female. We could not forget you if we tried. She won 18 Grammy Awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award (in 1994) and presided over a rich recorded musical legacy preserved in 42 studio albums, 131 singles, six live albums and more. Though she left the city to pursue her career in NY and Los Angeles, she returned to the city in 1982 to be closer to her family. "And as long as we're together baby, show some respect for me".
