Mourinho's men face Leicester in the Premier League opening game on Friday night, though up to 10 stars won't be available, meaning it may be a while before United's best line-up have a chance to line up together. It is time for me to stop thinking about the market.

The Red Devils coach has cut a sullen figure throughout pre-season with the former Chelsea boss unable to hide his dissatisfaction with Brazil worldwide midfielder Fred being his sides only high profile signing.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on Leicester's light World Cup recovery list: "When I look to Leicester, if I am not wrong, only Maguire and Vardy were in the World Cup, the final phase, because [Kasper] Schmeichel was, but back sooner".

Club legend Rio Ferdinand fears that Manchester United will not challenge for the Premier League title and their rivals Manchester City and Liverpool will finish above them in the upcoming campaign.

Jose Mourinho has taken aim at Liverpool and Tottenham on the eve of the new season, saying they "win nothing" but are painted as "serial winners" while his Manchester United get no credit.

The Red Devils have signed Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred, FC Porto defender Diogo Dalot and Stoke City goalkeeper Lee Grant. We go with everything we have in that first match.

When asked whether he expected to welcome a fresh additions to his United squad, Mourinho offered these comments: "The information I have is no".

"Is hard for me to understand, to feel, to believe we finish second".

That felt like a reference to Liverpool but, more importantly for United, it was also an admission that it will need a dramatic improvement this season for his own team to bridge the gap.

"They returned on Monday, trained Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and today so you can imagine they are not really fit and ready but we have needs", Mourinho said.

Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Phil Jones, and Victor Lindelöf were all praised by Mourinho for cutting short their holidays to return to training and be in the frame to play a part tomorrow.

Michael Owen has given his predictions for the new season, who will end up at the right and wrong ends of the Premier League.
