Moto Z3 Unveiled with Breakthrough 5G Mod

The Moto Z3 will be the final flagship in the series for this year as the tech giant hinted that there would be no Z3 Force for the first time since the Moto Z line was introduced. A dual-LED flash accompanies the rear camera.

Indeed, those who have been watching the Android segment for a while, and Motorola specifically, may find they recognize a lot about this particular smartphone. That 5G Moto Mod is going to be an impressive accessory, though.

The 5G Moto Mod is the first of its kind to feature the Snapdragon X50 modem, giving users access to 5G connectivity when this standard officially rolls out. Although the Moto Z3 as a flagship Android device, it will be shipping with last year's Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor - the same processor used on the Moto Z2.

As part of the Android 8.1 Oreo update, the Moto G5 will enjoy "many enhancements including new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls, improved data saver and battery features, new power menu UI and Bluetooth improvements". There is an 8-megapixel image sensor at the front for selfies with 1.12 micron pixels and 84-degree field of view. Interestingly, Motorola has baked in Google Lens into the rear camera.

There isn't a headphone jack but Motorola will include a converter dongle in the box. Strangely, the Moto Z3 appears to lack an inbuilt 5G antenna. And more importantly, the Moto Z3 retails for a much lower price.

Wireless carriers have spent the past few years touting their expensive network upgrades with dramatically faster 5G technology. Of course, this pricing doesn't include the 5G Moto Mod. The clip-on additional battery feature is also a bonus.

As far as the phone goes, it is going on sale in the United States on August 16 with a price tag of $480, roughly Rs 33,000. The Moto Z3 comes in only one colour model - Ceramic Black. The company has now launched the smartphone only for the USA market.

The soak test is now only available for users in select regions, the first of which was spotted in Brazil. Motorola hasn't officially confirmed availability of the flagship smartphone in India yet.

Motorola cited real world examples of how 5G could improve the mobile experience, from downloading hundreds of songs from Spotify in mere seconds to downloading four 4K-quality episodes of Game of Thrones in just one minute.

There's a new Android smartphone on the block, and as always our attention turns to the Motorola Moto Z3 specifications to see how it holds up at this point in 2018.

You may even be eligible for an up-to $300 discount when buying the Z3 if you switch to Verizon from a different carrier and trade in your current phone.

However, we do have a bit of mixed news on the processing front.
