Today, United are closing in on Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld....

Manchester United could rekindle their interest in Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, reporter Duncan Castes has claimed.

Marco Silva insists that Everton have been aware of his transfer targets since his first day at the club and stressed that their season hinges on bringing in reinforcements before Thursday's deadline.

The news comes at the same time as a new report from The Sun, which explains that a deal for another central defensive target, Yerry Mina of Barcelona, has collapsed.

However, Tottenham have made a decision to relax their stance on the asking price for Alderweireld.

Despite his contract situation, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was still determined to get top dollar for the 29-year-old and has reportedly been demanding £75m for Alderweireld's signature - a price United have refused to meet.

However, Goal understands United have pulled the plug on a move for Mina, focussing their attentions on landing Alderweireld instead. The towering defender is regarded as one of the best in his position in the Premier League, despite going through a hard 2018-19 season.

Alderweireld had an excellent World Cup campaign for Belgium and helped his side reach the semis.

Everton completed the signing of Digne, a 25-year-old French left-back who has previously played Lille, Paris Saint-Germain and Roma, for close to £18 million pound last week.

The Red Devils are thought to be in the market to sign a new centre-half in the summer transfer window to improve Jose Mourinho's team.

He has also been on the agenda of Premier League new boys Wolves.
