Liverpool finish pre-season by beating Torino

There's still one more pre-season fixture to get out of the way before the campaign starts in earnest, but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is already looking past the meeting with Italian side Torino FC at Anfield tomorrow to their Premier League curtain raiser against West Ham United next Sunday and the German isn't exactly chuffed with what he's seeing.

There was also another promising display from 21-year-old Nathaniel Phillips, who played nearly the full 90 minutes at centre-back, and a nice moment midway through the second half when Loris Karius, whose errors contributed to Liverpool's defeat in last season's Champions League final, replaced Alisson to huge cheers from the home crowd.

The Reds will go into their fixture against the Serie A side at Anfield with Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez as their only two fit senior centre halves, with Ragnar Klavan, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip all struggling with minor knocks. "He was very comfortable on the ball five minutes in and it meant we could show for it and he was starting most of our play, so it was a very good performance from him".

"Joel, we'll have to see", Klopp said, according to the Liverpool Echo. One of the main things I was asked about after the game was: 'Can he really play as the No 6?' I said: 'Yes, he can and he will.' He had to learn and he had to improve and that's exactly what he did.

Italy global Andrea Belotti pulled one back for the visitors with a powerful header, but after Klopp made a raft of substitutions, Daniel Sturridge nodded in a Xherdan Shaqiri cross to score for the third friendly in a row.

Klopp shouldn't change much tactically this summer.

And Klopp added: "I was not surprised to be honest but as a human being I was hoping for it and I loved it". "It is not about judging our situation and thinking 'Wow, really good.' We need to be ready each week - not only for a few games".

"I'm happy that we came through the pre-season so far, so good". Hendo needs a pre-season but not as much as the others as he has not had long off'.
