Authorities say an officer climbed over the safety railing and brought the unconscious child onto the walkway where officers attempted CPR. They say the baby was suffering no obvious signs of trauma when he was first spotted.

Her husband Monte called emergency services before reaching into the water to retrieve the boy.

The boy was pronounced dead at NY Downtown Hospital.

It wasn't clear how long the baby had been in the water.

Diana Campbell took video and photos of the scene, hoping the images would be helpful in identifying the infant.
