'Idris could do it if he was in shape, ' she revealed.

'I think it's more about "we just want to have a black guy play James Bond" rather than "Idris Elba, the actor, play James Bond" That's the part that I'm like "ugh, come on"'. Despite Craig's return, however, speculation has been rampant about who will subsequently assume the 007 mantle, with fans diligently petitioning series producers to make a bold choice by selecting Idris Elba as the next incarnation of the iconic British spy.

Director Antoine Fuqua chatted to Barbara about who will take over from Daniel Craig, 50, if he hangs up his gun after the next Bond film, due next year. The news comes by way of The Daily Star, which reportedly caught Fuqua's comments about his conversation with Broccoli at the launch of his new app SoundFi, which supposedly provides "3D sound for movies" delivered through viewers' headphones. But one name keeps coming up: Idris Elba.

Idris Elba has always been suggested for the role of James Bond after Daniel Craig leaves the role, and with recent rumors suggesting it could possibly happen, a new image reveals what he could look like in the role. "Happy New Year people", Elba wrote at the time.

Bond 26, which could potentially be the one to feature Elba, is expected to be released around 2022 or 2023, at which point he'd be almost 50. Elba addressed the rumors with humor tweeting back in December 2014.

He added: 'Are we interested in having a Bond character other than being a male?

He said to Vanity Fair: "It could be a woman - could be a black woman, could be a white woman".

However, Elba once insisted that no one is genuinely considering him to play 007.
