Donald Trump Tweets Reaction To John McCain's Death

"My father, United States Senator John Sidney McCain III, departed this life today", Meghan began. He announced on July 19, 2017, that he had been diagnosed with a glioblastoma, an aggressive type of brain tumor.

"Some lives are so vivid, it is hard to imagine them ended", Mr. He taught me how to live.

When Republicans took control of the Senate in 2015, McCain embraced his new influence as chairman of the Armed Services Committee, pushing for aggressive USA military intervention overseas and eager to contribute to "defeating the forces of radical Islam that want to destroy America". He was also a pilot in the U.S. Navy and was taken captive as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

His body was savaged as he ejected from his plane over Hanoi in 1967 and twisted by five years of captivity as a prisoner of war. Our country has lost a decorated war hero and statesman. He dies at what could be considered that age's twilight, as the nation turns inward and contemplates walls, literal and metaphorical, to insulate itself from the rest of this world. Back on McCain's Arizona ranch, the senator gave Collins an extensive nature tour of the property. Others directly accused the deceased senator of pursuing his ideals at the cost of entire nations and wanting "to wipe Syria, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, and Vietnam off the map".

But just as it appeared his political career was about to take off, scandal threatened to take him down.

He missed a White House ceremony on December 12, 2017, in which President Donald Trump signed the annual defense bill into law - one of McCain's signature achievements.

He stood up against racist attacks on Obama in the final days of the 2008 campaign, when smears on Obama's religion made their way into public discourse.

McCain never won the top political office for which he longed. Agree with him or disagree, that is undeniably a most appropriate epitaph.

He was given poor medical treatment by the North Vietnamese, which left McCain with lifelong injuries.

Following the announcement of his death on Saturday evening, U.S. president Donald Trump said his "deepest sympathies" went to Mr McCain's family. 'Our hearts and prayers are with you!'

Ex-president Barack Obama, the Democrat to whom McCain lost the presidency in the 2008 elections, said "we are all in his debt".

Also notable were the times McCain held his tongue in service of a party or political gain.

Obama says despite their differences, they shared a "fidelity to something higher - the ideals for which generations of Americans and immigrants alike have fought, marched, and sacrificed".

"Our family is immensely grateful for the support and kindness of all his caregivers over the a year ago, and for the continuing outpouring of concern and affection from John's many friends and associates, and the many thousands of people who are keeping him in their prayers". But all of us can aspire to the courage to put the greater good above our own. McCain, who passed away on Saturday, was a vocal critic of current US President and both have traded barbs publicly in spite of being in the same party.

On Friday, Republican Mitt Romney said he was "blessed and humbled" to have been friends with McCain.

John Sidney McCain III was born on August 29, 1936, to a prominent naval family steeped in patriotism.

Former Vice President Joe Biden said, "McCain will cast a long shadow", with his impact cemented in America's future.
