The Red Devils paid big money to snare Pogba away from Italian champions Juventus two years ago, but he has been subject to criticism at Old Trafford, while there are also question marks over his relationship with Jose Mourinho.

According to the Daily Mail, the Portuguese Football Association is considering a move for Mourinho, whose future at United could be in the balance, to take over the national team's hot seat.

Mourinho has been criticised for the brand of football his team has produced since his arrival at the Red Devils in 2016, and he has not won himself many fans with his recent behaviour during pre-season.

Jose Mourinho tells ESPN FC that the World Cup was the flawless habitat for Paul Pogba as he could 'only think about football'.

Instead of praising Pogba's performances, Mourinho urged him to "understand" why he had done so well in Russian Federation and appeared to suggest the player lacked the same focus for his club.

Pogba, a favourite of executive vice chairman Ed Woodward, has three years left on his contract with the option of a further 12 months, and the club are under no pressure to sell.

The fact Raiola, who was in the north-west yesterday, is trying so hard will only increase the belief the players wants out of United after just two years.

FC Barcelona could feasibly complete a deal to sign Pogba any time between now and the end of August, when the European transfer window closes.

United are expecting a busy few days before the 5pm transfer deadline on Thursday.

Meanwhile, United remain in talks with Bayern Munich over Germany centre back Jerome Boateng.

But it seems United have turned down the shockingly-low bid. "It's about him giving the best he has to give".
