Zsa Zsa, the English bulldog whose captivating looks and lolling tongue garnered her the title of World's Ugliest Dog last month, died in her sleep on Tuesday.

One June 23, Zsa Zsa - with her barrel chest, slobbering tongue and a pink manicure - won the 30th annual World's Ugliest Dog contest in California.

The nine-year-old spent her final weeks travelling and making television appearances.

Zsa Zsa was rescued from a puppy farm and given a loving home before her death.

According to Today, Brainard, her husband and their 15-month-old daughter held a special farewell ceremony to remember Zsa Zsa.

After her big win, Zsa Zsa's family said, "We are so excited for her, she deserves this". The American Kennel Club said her breed typically lives eight to 10 years Zsa Zsa was 9.

'We were all saying our goodbyes and Mareslie went right over and gave her a kiss.

Zsa Zsa is a testament to the horrifying process of inbreeding that sapped the English bulldog gene pool of its diversity, but, thankfully, she won the unusual competition.

Zsa Zsa, the World's Ugliest Dog, has, sadly, become the world's ugliest angel dog. "It's been two weeks and I still don't believe it", Brainard told the TV show.

Soon after, the Brainards found her on PetFinder.com.

After her win, she was awarded $1,500 and flown to NY first class.
