Steven Gerrard has been busy in the transfer market already this summer, as he looks to put together a squad which is capable of competing both domestically and in Europe in the upcoming season.

Coulibaly was on Tuesday unveiled as a Rangers player on a season loan deal from French League 1 side Angers.

"Rangers are delighted to announce the signing of Umar Sadiq on a season long loan from Roma, subject to worldwide clearance".

The 21-year-old has found it hard to claim a shirt with AS Roma after joined them from Serie B side Spezia in 2015. Coulibaly told Rangers TV.

Talking to Rangers TV, the midfielder said he was anxious he was the victim of a prank call when Gerrard phoned him to discuss a move to Rangers. Even if the plan was to stay at Roma I couldn't turn him down.

"When my agent told me Steven Gerrard is the head coach, I said, OK "no problem" and I was happy to come and join this team".

"Rangers is a good team, I'd heard the name before Gerrard came in here". Across all competitions for Angers, Coulibaly made just 23 appearances and scored only one goal.

He smiled: "I don't like to say anything about myself but I am a hardworking player who always wants to help the team". I don't watch the league, but I know about Celtic and Rangers in Scotland.

Sadiq will join the likes of Connor Goldson, Jamie Murphy, Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan and Scott Arfield as new signings at Ibrox, and will give Gerrard a new look team to take into his first managerial combat with.
