Overwatch could get the most creative hero thus far

Blizzard revealed Overwatch's newest hero in a tweet earlier today, Hammond, a hamster in a mech called Wrecking Ball.

Blizzard was very cryptic with its hints for the 28th hero over the past week, releasing two teasers on the 21st and the 25th of June.

Over the past few days, the people behind Overwatch have been teasing a new hero on their Twitter page. While it is indeed Hammond, the character that players suspected we'd see added, it turns out Hammond is an adorable hamster.

Hammond, it seems, comes from the Horizon Lunar Colony, the same facility that genetically engineered Winston.

Years later, Lucheng Interstellar was able to retrieve information from Horizon's still-operating monitoring system. The main goal of the moonbase was to focus on space exploration. It already has sentient robots and a talking ape that's also a scientist.

As a new tank, Wrecking Ball sounds like a fantastic addition to the Overwatch line-up. Get ready everyone, because HAMmond the HAMster is here to HAM everyone out of his way. Though they'd always find him and return him to his cell, they never figured out the true goal behind his nightly escapades. Hammond's natural curiosity led him to frequently escape his quarters on the colony and to teach himself how to become a mechanic. This would prove to be useful later on. Its subjects rebelled, launching human scientists into space. Winston and Hammond are both missing, as per Lucheng systems.

Of course, Hammond's ball isn't just a plaything used for exercise. Unfortunately, while Winston landed at Watchpoint, Gibraltar, Hammond ended up crash landing near Junkertown in Australia (due to a malfunction). Putting his mechanical skills to work he modified his escape pod, turning it into a battle mech which he used to compete in the mech battle arena of the Scrapyard. Now he travels the world, doing whatever he pleases.

As a tank, Wrecking Ball is built to take a massive amount damage via the use of his Adaptive Shield. But it's no ordinary ball that you'd buy at a pet store. The new hero is now available on the PTR so if you'd like to take it for a spin, you'll have to download the PTR to check it out.
