All that has changed, now that the Orioles are looking to receive a huge return for their All-Star shortstop in a blockbuster trade.

Sunday's game between the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles featured a rain delay.

"That's part of it", Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. So with the July 31 trade deadline right around the corner, here are three reasons why a trade for Machado would be ideal for the Phillies at this very moment in the 2018 season to give them a better chance of continuing to be a contender.

At Monday's media availability, Machado spent most of his time addressing questions about his future. "I'm not going to sit here and tell you that was all it".

"Just going out there, you're just in control of the game", Machado said in regards to playing shortstop. "We know what's going on, the potential".

Regardless, these appear to be the final days of calling Machado an Oriole.

"No, no. I'm putting it on and I'm going to represent the organization in the right way", he said Monday.

Machado is Baltimore's lone representative for Tuesday's showcase. His contract expires after this season, and the Orioles aren't in a position to match the offers the four-time All-Star is expected to receive on the open market.

It's not yet known which team has a deal in place with the Orioles, but Olney noted Tuesday that the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies have been invested in their pursuit of the All-Star shortstop. Machado said after the game that he wasn't thinking of that. "If not, I'll be there on Friday (in Toronto), back with my teammates". "I mean it's just been very incredible". The right-hander walked the game's first three batters and gave up a one-out grand-slam to first baseman Ronald Guzman.

Machado ignited the comeback with his 24th homer, and Jones' bases-clearing double in the third off Mike Minor (6-6) put Baltimore ahead to stay.

Anyway, like I said, speculation. I've got a lot of clothes in my locker and in my room. Tocci, a pinch runner, was trying to score from first on Elvis Andrus's double. The Diamondbacks in particular are still "active", and could be running second in the unfolding derby.
