Search teams had been combing Highway 1 because Hernandez was last seen in surveillance footage on the roadway near Carmel as she made her way from Portland to her sister's home in Southern California, per ABC 7.

Isabel Hernandez set up a GoFundMe to help with her sister's medical costs and buy her a new vehicle, which had reached $3,470 of its $6,000 goal by Sunday morning.

Rescuers managed to get her up the cliff and to a helicopter which flew her to a nearby hospital.

She stayed alive "by drinking water from the radiator of her vehicle", according to the Highway Patrol. The department tweeted Friday evening to say that Hernandez was safe after she'd been reported missing some six days earlier.

Thornburg said the vehicle landed 200-250 feet down the cliff and was partially submerged.

She and her auto were last seen on a CCTV camera at a petrol station on 6 July, 50 miles north of where she was found.

I hope everyone will have patience for her and her recovery, ' Angela's sister Isabel Hernandez wrote on Facebook on Saturday. It's not going to be an easy recovery. "She was found by two people walking in the area, who called 911".

Sheriffs said she had told her sister she would stay overnight in a auto park before continuing her journey the next morning, but they had not heard from her after 6 July.

Local resident Chelsea Moore was hiking in Big Sur with her husband when they found Hernandez on Friday night, according to Moore's mother, Luanna Sandvik. On the morning of July 6 she texted her sister saying she was hitting the road before she suddenly went off the grid.

Hernandez's Jeep Patriot apparently ran off Highway 1, the north-south highway that hugs the Pacific coastline.

Later that day her cell phone mysteriously pinged in Santa Cruz County. Angela is an active social media user and since then, she has not been active.
