A MA police officer is killed in the line of duty with his own firearm. The unidentified woman was fatally wounded by stray bullets in a nearby home.

Lopes will appear before a judge on Monday, but it's not yet clear whether the arraignment will be held at South Shore Hospital where he is being treated for the gunshot wound to his leg or at Quincy District Court where an arraignment for a Weymouth crime is usually held.

Chesna drew his weapon and told the man to stop, according to Norfolk County Assistant District Attorney Greg Connor.

Chesna then saw Lopes vandalizing a home, that's where Lopes then hit Chesna in the head with a rock and took his gun shooting Chesna multiple times, officials said.

The Norfolk District Attorney's Office says it can not release more information on the suspect's 'past court involvement ' prior to court Monday.

"He was a great officer", Grimes said. After Chesna fell, Lopes allegedly took the police officer's gun and shot him several times in the head and chest.

Two more policemen are also shot in the central state of Missouri Sunday, with the gunman still at large.

"I hired Mike Chesna 6 years ago tomorrow", said Grimes.

Weymouth Police Chief Richard Grimes identified the shooting suspect as Emanuel Lopes, and said he was in custody.

Authorities say the Weymouth officer was shot before 8 a.m. Sunday, and the officer's injuries have been described as "life-threatening". Chesna was from Weymouth and graduated in 1994 from Weymouth High School.

Chesna's body was transported from the hospital to the state medical examiner's office in Boston.

A neighbor told CBS Boston she hear shots around 7:30 a.m. Dozens of police, some tight-lipped and others crying, somberly saluted the vehicle carrying the officer's body, and mourners placed bouquets by the Weymouth Police Headquarters, now draped in black bunting.
