IPhone Users Report Battery Life Dropped Significantly After iOS 11.4 Update

You can, however, find USB Restricted Mode under the Touch ID & Passcode section of the Settings app as "USB Accessories". In other words, once the police officer seizes an iPhone, he or she would need to immediately connect that iPhone to a compatible USB accessory to prevent USB Restricted Mode lock after one hour.

The update includes a new feature called "USB Restricted Mode" that will disable a data connection from the iPhone's charging/data port at the bottom of the device after one hour of being locked by default. However, it turns out that there was an oversight in security, meaning that USB Restricted Mode can be bypassed by a simple accessory that Apple sells itself.

Restricted Mode is activated if the iPhone or iPad is left locked for more than hour.

It has been seen that the lock doesn't get affected with Apple Lightning to 3.5mm jack adapter, though the one-hour countdown was reset through the official Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter.

Now, Apple should be testing iOS 12, watchOS 5, and tvOS 12 exclusively, as you shouldn't expect to see anymore iOS 11 updates.

Elcomsoft engineer Oleg Afonin noted that testing showed that once USB Restricted Mode kicks in, there is no obvious way to break it.

Security researchers at ElcomSoft discovered the security hole, which can be found in iOS 11.4.1.

The latest point update of iOS comes nearly a month after Apple had released iOS 11.4 with some major audio focused improvements. The Grayshift boxes plug into the Lightning port and remove prolonged delays between PIN code attempts, allowing law enforcement (or criminals) to brute-force an unlock.

Apple hasn't confirmed the once-every-ten-minute limits, but if true, that's a really big problem for companies like Grayshift ... and a really good thing for customers who just want their devices to be as secure as possible.

Apple's bug fix updates for iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS have been in beta since the last minor updates were released in May.
