I don’t fear for my England T20 career, says Joe Root

Sharma hit a wonderful 137 not out after Yadav did the damage with the ball with six wickets, helping India win with 10 overs to spare.

This match was at Trent Bridge, remember.

The 20-year-old all-rounder will return to the squad on Saturday when the second ODI takes place at Lord's. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Jason Roy, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow in his first two overs.

On the other hand, hosts England, would try to leave the T20I series defeat behind and will take some motivation from the ODI series against Australia, where the Eoin Morgan-led side had crushed the visitors 6-0.

"You need people who can manipulate the strike, who can play spin bowling well and can keep you in tight games, that's a skill Joe has and he has the ability to hit boundaries". Playing against spin is a challenge we will hopefully continue to improve on.

England are hot favourites 10 months out from the start of the Cricket World Cup, which will be contested on home soil.

But the introduction of Kuldeep, in his 21st match at this level, changed the course of the innings.

Roy (38) was caught by Umesh Yadav while Bairstow (38) and Root were trapped lbw in the 13th over. England defeated Australia in the previous ODI series and also achieved the highest team score in ODIs when they scored 481/6 in the third ODI against Australian team.

"One thing is for sure is it is great to see Ben Stokes back to somewhere near fully fit".

Buttler played Kuldeep better than most - so much so that Kohli packed him away for a later return - but, after putting on 93 with Stokes for the fifth wicket, the England wicketkeeper became his fourth victim, feathering a leg side glance to MS Dhoni behind the stumps. The spinner, who also dismantled England during the recent twenty20 series that India won 2-1, wrapped up by taking David Willey with his last ball, caught by Lokesh Rahul.

The tourists will have confidence on their side after their T20 win heading into the 50-over format, exposing England's attack on smaller grounds.

Asked whether he had done enough to force his way in, Kohli smiled.

"There might be a few surprises in there", he said with a smile.

Such was Kuldeep's brilliance that it prompted Kohli to hint that the chinaman bowler might feature in India's Test XI against England later on.

"He is making a strong start for himself, as his Chahal; both of them are pretty lethal for us and looking at the English batsmen struggling against them we might be tempted to do that", said Kohli.

Morgan revealed Stokes did not bowl his full quota of four overs for tactical reasons, rather than concerns over his fitness. I want to see us being as complete a side as possible in all three competitions, but I want to be a part of them.

One bright spot in an otherwise gloomy night.
