"I felt good out there, less nerves than in the first round", Federer said.

Seven-time champion Serena Williams won 6-1 6-4 in just over an hour against Viktoriya Tomova on her first return to Centre Court since winning the title in 2016.

There were also wins for Madison Keys and fifth seed Karolina Pliskova. It was her earliest exit at a Slam since a first round defeat at the 2010 Australian Open.

The showcase was such an oddity that Serena Williams' older sister, Venus, a five-time Wimbledon champion, said she "was really overjoyed" when she saw the schedule.

Play was never able to resume on the outside courts as intermittent rain fell from just before 7 p.m., leaving a number of other matches incomplete, including the match between ninth-seeded American John Isner and Belgium's Ruben Bemelmans, which was in the fifth set with Isner trailing 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 (8), 7-6 (7), 4-3. Federer won the match 6-4, 6-4, 6-1.

"Oh, I didn't know that", he said sounding bemused.

Five-time champion Venus Williams battled into the third round with a 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 win over Romanian qualifier Alexandra Dulgheru. If that's working for me I'm all for it. Wozniacki arrived in southwest London in good form on grass following her victory at the Wimbledon warm-up event in Eastbourne last week. "If that's your best or not doesn't matter".

The Russian kept her cool, however, to hold serve and then break Wozniacki, winning 6-4 1-6 7-5.

Williams brushed aside Tomova in just 66 minutes with 24 winners and four aces to extend her streak of consecutive match wins at the All England Club.

Agnieszka Radwanska, who made the final in 2012, was beaten in straight sets by Lucie Safarova.

Reigning badass boss Serena Williams has been a professional tennis champ for almost 23 years, earning 39 (!) Grand Slam titles throughout her impressive career.

The former beat Viktoriya Tomova, while the latter overcame Lukas Lacko, but second seed Caroline Wozniacki crashed out at the hands of Ekaterina Makarova.

Apart from adjusting to her role "as a working mom", the seven-times champion also had to get used to hearing something "new" as she was addressed as "Mrs Williams" for the first time at the grasscourt major following her marriage to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian previous year.
