Lovren came in for criticism in the first-half of last season, in particular when he was hooked half-an-hour into a 4-1 defeat by Tottenham at Wembley.

This time, however, the defender played his part well in keeping Kane quite.

Lovren will hope to be on the winning side of a major final this year after Real Madrid beat Klopp's side 3-1 to seal their 13th Champions League title in Kiev.

"People said I had a hard season but I don't agree with that", he told beIN Sport.

A billion-dollar assembly of stars makes France the favorite for the World Cup final, a scenario that Dejan Lovren is pitching as ideal for Croatia's biggest ever game.

"I think people should recognise that I am also one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense".

Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalic, right, celebrates with Luka Modric after his team advanced to the final during the semifinal match between Croatia and England at the 2018 soccer World Cup in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia, Wednesday, July 11, 2018.

"He was for us in the Champions League final, three years ago he was in the Europa League final, yes he didn't win that".

'I went through a lot of s*** and I would say it is coming back.

"We are a small country, only four million people and we have big talent in our squad", he told CNN Sport in an exclusive interview before the World Cup.

Lovren has been considered by some as error-prone, but Klopp feels this assessment has been blown out of proportion. In 20 years' time, people will remember us, and not just the team from 1998.

'In extra-time we showed we are still able with the fatigue to play our game'.

"We will never forget this". But he has another chance at lifting a silverware with Croatia on Sunday.
