He also called it a PR stunt as it wouldn't be able to navigate the complex tunnels of the Tham Luang cave complex, adding Mr Musk was not needed and was asked to leave.

The freaky attack came after the rescue diver claimed that the mini-sub that Mr Musk built for the rescue and delivered to the site personally was just a PR stunt.

Musk's Boring Company developed a few very small submarines, hoping to help rescue the Thai boys who were trapped in a cave for over two weeks.

"It had absolutely no chance of working".

That was enough for Musk to throw a Twitter tantrum, in which he not only questioned Unsworth's knowledge, he said he never even saw Unsworth in the cave, implying he wasn't really all that important to the rescue.

Musk, who has previously given to both Republicans and Democrats, wrote on Twitter on Saturday that he is "not a conservative" but was criticized for the contribution to Republicans.

"I thought they had it in hand & only agreed to help when Thai SEAL died (deep cave pumps not operating at time)", Musk said. "The submarine, I believe, was about 5ft 6in long, rigid, so it wouldn't have gone round corners or round any obstacles".

British caver Vernon Unsworth.

Musk was widely mocked on social media after the boys were rescued without the use of his submarine.

Unsworth told AFP on Monday he had not reviewed the tweets in full and had only heard about them.

In this case, the criticism came from a British cave diving expert who said he wasn't too impressed with Musk's plan to rescue the Thai soccer team trapped in a cave system in Chiang Rai. "It wouldn't have made the first fifty meters into the cave".

When a Twitter user pointed out that Musk was "calling the guy who found the children a pedo", as The Guardian reported, the tech entrepreneur responded: "Bet ya a signed dollar it's true".

Unsworth said Musk was asked to leave the cave, as "he should have been".

"Although his technology is good and sophisticated it's not practical for this mission", Mr Narongsak said.

"We will make [a video] of the mini-sub going all the way to Cave 5 no problemo".

Musk fired back at this claim, saying the former provincial governor was "not the subject matter expert" and sharing his correspondence with leader of the dive rescue team Richard Stanton.
