Comcast Blames Widespread Service Outage on Cut Fiber Line

Comcast provided a statement to CNBC confirming a "nationwide outage impacting some of our internet, video and voice customers".

On Twitter, Comcast has told customers they are "working to restore service".

Company officials said the outage is affecting business and residential video, internet and voice customers. We apologize and are working to get services restored as soon as possible. Your internet use could change as "net neutrality" endsComcast's verified Twitter account replied to some users complaining about a lack of service.

A Comcast sign is seen as the US media group submitted a $30.7 billion bid for Sky on April 25 in Miami. Other users on competing networks like AT&T seem to be reporting no issues whatsoever. It is the second largest US pay TV provider, behind AT&T, since its DirecTV acquisition.

Verizon, Spectrum, and AT&T also were showing huge spikes in complaints on downdetector around 12:30, indicating a widespread outage across big telecom firms.
