Adult film star Stephanie Clifford who had claimed to have had an affair with United States President Donald Trump, was arrested on Thursday, her lawyer Michael Avenatti said.

The club, Sirens, advertised Daniel's appearance on Twitter ahead of Wednesday night's performance.

Avenatti did not provide details on the "act" in question, but he said Daniels was "arrested for allegedly allowing a customer to touch her while on stage in a non sexual manner". have contacted the Columbus Police Department for comment. He intends to fight the charges.

Avenatti says Daniels has received a misdemeanor and they will be contesting the charges.

OH law says a person who performs "nude or seminude on the premises of a sexually oriented business" are not allowed to be touched by patrons.

Michael Avenatti said in a tweet the charge was "politically motivated".

Avenatti told Newsweek he had no comment to add beyond his tweets.

Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, was arrested by Columbus Police. A fourth officer then exited the club to request assistance to make an arrest.

Although the law has been in effect for over a decade, a 2017 report from The Columbus Dispatch found that it is seldom enforced.

Daniels was released on bail early Thursday morning, and is due back in court Friday morning for an arraignment.

Last month, the Sirens Gentlemen's Club posted on its website that Daniels was scheduled to perform there Wednesday and Thursday.

Daniels has been entrenched in a legal controversy with Trump over their alleged 2006 encounter, which he has repeatedly denied. Trump has denied the accusation.

Daniels is suing the president and his former longtime personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen, and trying to invalidate a nondisclosure agreement she signed days before the 2016 presidential election.
