XXXTentacion Dead: Rapper Killed In Drive By Shooting in South Florida

While nothing has been confirmed officially, videos and witnesses from the scene say that Onfroy was killed. He was just 20 years old.

Some clips that showed someone looking like the rapper in a state of unconsciousness in his car's driver's seat started circulation online, shocking many.

Police received a call of a shooting at 3.57pm (EST) after which an adult male victim was transported to hospital.

Known for melding hip-hop with elements of punk, emo, indie and other genres, XXXTentacion, given name Jahseh Onfroy, began recording music with friends in his bedroom and releasing it online.

It was initially believed that a lone gunman ran up to the musician's vehicle and shot him as he was about to leave the dealership in south Florida.

Before the XXXTentacion's death was confirmed, rapper Juicy J tweeted, "Prayers up for @xxxtentacion".

The Broward County Sheriff's Office told PEOPLE that authorities could not confirm XXXTentacion (born Jahseh Onfroy) was the victim but that they had responded to a shooting at a Deerfield Beach motorsports dealer. Investigators don't have a motive, and no arrests have been made.

XXXTentacion, released his debut album in August 2017. Reports say his run-ins with law enforcement also included two robberies, assault with a deadly weapon and witness tampering.

"According to Billboard, XXXTentacion recently earned his first No. 1 album on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart with "?", which debuted atop the list dated March 31. His house arrest had been imposed as he awaited trial for a variety of charges stemming from his alleged violent abuse of an ex-girlfriend.
