What Prince Harry Promised Thomas Markle Before Wedding

The conversation also made mention of another particularly significant political topic in Britain, which is the country's decision to leave the European Union. There was no real commitment for it.

Thomas continued: "I don't think there is a stalk in the air yet but I think it will happen sooner or later".

"She was so lovely walking down that aisle, and so proud and so gorgeous".

Talking about the moment he told his daughter and her husband-to-be that he would not make the wedding, Markle said, "They were disappointed".

He told broadcaster ITV he had several phone conversations with Prince Harry, including one in which the Prince asked for permission to marry his daughter.

"They were disappointed but they both said - and Meghan cried, I'm sure, she did cry - and they both said take care of yourself, we're really anxious about you", he explained. Like I say, I'm a footnote rather than the dad that walked his girl down the aisle. "That really upsets me somewhat".

In the end, Meghan walked down the first part of the aisle unescorted, before she was joined by Charles, Harry's father and heir-to-the-throne. I couldn't have seen a better moment in my life.

Harry's press office declined to comment on Markle's televised interview, which could raise eyebrows because senior royal figures are scrupulously careful not to comment publicly on domestic or global political affairs.

Markle admitted to shedding a few tears while he watched his daughter's wedding on television as he recovered from heart surgery in California.

As a result, he did not walk his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day.

Thomas told GMB on Monday that he'd had heart surgery in May. "He looked very handsome, and my daughter looked lovely with him".

After Thomas decided not to attend the wedding, Harry's father, Prince Charles, stepped in to accompany Meghan down the aisle at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle and her dad felt "honoured" with the replacement.

"My daughter has been a princess since the day she was born", he said.

Markle also apologized for staging photos with a photographer which contributed to the furor around him ahead of the wedding.

"This was a presentation to me to change my image because for the previous year, photographs of me were always derogatory. And I said, 'That's really nice.' And then the next call was like, 'He's British.' And I said, 'That's really nice.' And eventually the third time round was, 'He's a prince, '" Markle said. "I look forward to coming to London to meet them soon".

He explained that it was meant to be "a way of improving my look", adding: "Obviously that all went to hell". "I feel bad about it", he said.

"I didn't do this for money", Thomas said of the staged photos. "Very likable", he said of the 33-year-old prince. "My daughter is capable of anything and she will be a compliment to the royal family".

"The only clause that she asked was that the Queen not discuss it with any other senior royals, such as Charles and William".
