Italy's new anti-elite Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte played by the rules at the Group of Seven industrialized nations summit, leaving none of the club's members unhappy in his debut on the worldwide stage in Canada.

The war of words between Trudeau and Trump escalated after the USA president left the meeting early. "Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around".

The president said that the level of the relationship with the G7 leaders "is a 10".

Trump has also feuded on Twitter this week with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and French President Emmanuel Macron, who are both attending this year's summit.

"Overall an encouraging debut", said one European official as the G7 summit drew to a close and the Italian premier had not gone so far as to break the ranks of the European countries as feared by some. We are sticking to them and whoever reneges on them is showing incoherence and inconsistency.

"International cooperation can not depend on being angry and on sound bites".

"Let's be serious and worthy of our people".

On Friday, ahead of the summit, Trump told reporters that Russian Federation should be in the meeting.

"We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", the statement says.

The US leader left the summit earlier than planned on Saturday to fly to Singapore to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, which he described as a "mission of peace".

The relationship has reportedly frayed to the point where Trump was considering sending Vice President Mike Pence to the G7 summit in his place, according to a Washington Post report.

Taking to the U.S. president's favourite social media, Twitter, Mr Conte wrote: "I agree with President Trump: Russia should return to the G8".

"It allowed a dialogue, where for weeks there were uncoordinated unilateral actions and non-cooperation". "It's a lovely evening, a great weekend". He added that the US will take the necessary steps to protect industry and workers from unfair practices. China has vowed to retaliate in equal measure. "The EU trade surplus with the $151 Billion, and Canada keeps our farmers and others out".

The investigation into cars is seen by some as a way for the gain leverage in the talks to revamp Nafta, including Mexico, which is the largest source of US auto imports. They could also damage Japan and Germany.

The G7 joint communique, which advocates a "rules-based trading system", was reached despite tension over United States tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, reported BBC.

Trump added: "Very dishonest & weak".

"It's economic. It's the balance sheet".
