Trump Announces Suspension of U.S.-South Korea 'War Games'

Ending what Trump referred to as "war games" - the annual joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea - was one of the biggest wins Kim secured during the landmark meeting in Singapore earlier Tuesday.

"Bring our guys home, find out where they are", said Ed Valle, president of a Korean War Veterans Association in the Twin Cities.

A spokesperson for U.S. Forces Korea (USFK) on Tuesday denied receiving any instructions yet as to the official nature of Trump's announcement.

"Kim Jong-un clarified the stand that if the US side takes genuine measures for building trust in order to improve the DPRK-US relationship, the DPRK, too, can continue to take additional goodwill measures of the next stage commensurate with them", said the KCNA report.

Commentators worldwide were quick to point out that far from achieving a commitment to "complete, verifiable and irreversible" denuclearization that he had trumpeted ahead of the summit, Trump merely persuaded Kim to work "towards" denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. US officials believe that harsh sanctions have been instrumental in the "maximum pressure campaign" to bring Kim to the negotiating table.

Donald Trump dropped a bombshell about ending "war games" with South Korea at the press conference.

According to Reuters, several analysts see the summit as light in substance and remain unsure of how effective the agreement would prove to be in the long run, regarding North Korea's much-anticipated denuclearization.

The defense chief added that Japan would continue its own joint exercises with the US and would stick to plans to boost its defense against the ballistic missile threat from the North.

"I think without him, this whole thing wouldn't have happened because it crystallized when he came back in that condition", Trump said. But just who did they pick to interview for analysis of what's going on?

Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and resolution of disputes through peaceful means on the basis of respect for global law has been Vietnam's consistent stance, Hang said.

Some experts have criticized proposals for a step-by-step approach as a mere ploy by Pyongyang to win concessions while delaying disarmament.

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman, clad in a MAGA hat, appeared on CNN Monday night - while U.S. President Donald Trump met with North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un for their historic summit in Singapore - and wept.

He said the Trump administration didn't ask him to play any role in the Singapore summit. "I support this as a first step to the comprehensive resolution of issues concerning North Korea".
