A source confirms to Variety that the rapper, whose real name is Jahseh Onfroy, has been critically wounded.

The Broward Sheriff's Office tweeted about the shooting, stating that "dispatchers received a call of a shooting at 3:57 p.m" and "an adult male victim was transported to an area hospital".

An apparent onlooker at the scene soon shared video on Twitter that was widely viewed showing a man who looks like XXXTentacion sitting motionless in the front seat of a vehicle as someone checked his pulse.

XXXTentacion, whose most recent album debuted at #1 on numerous charts, was facing a slew of charges related to domestic violence and later, related charges of witness tampering.

TMZ is reporting that Onfroy has been dubbed "a Level 1 trauma patient" and is comatose on his way to the hospital. The incident is a possible drive-by shooting, as the gunman reportedly fled in a black Dodge Journey.

XXXTentacion was shot and killed in Miami earlier today, June 18, while he was shopping for motorcycles.

XXXTentacion began recording in 2013 and found mainstream success with his 2017 debut album 17, which hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned some minor-hit singles.

The controversial rapper was also plagued by legal issues, having faced charges of gun possession, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

XXXTentacion was released from house arrest in March after pleading not guilty.

The rapper's music made waves last month after Spotify announced it would scrub his tracks from its platform, as his alleged behaviour had violated codes of conduct. "My family said that he is my father's cousin son, I have a cousin in St Ann who knows him quite well, but this is so tragic, he was only 20 years old".
