This is the latest accolade for the 28-year-old Joshua, who was rewarded with an MBE in 2013 after claiming an Olympic gold medal at the London 2012 Games.

Miss Fielding describes news of her OBE as a "A huge surprise and it is a great honour for me".

"I like to think this award honours that, and the importance of literature and creativity in the classroom".

Professor Rosemary Davis, from Moreton-in-Marsh, who is Professor Emeritus at University College London, is made CBE for services to education.

Smyth, recognised for her services to the community through her roles with charities and scientific organisations, said the rise in the number of women receiving the highest honours reflected a growing appreciation of the role they play in society.

Veronica Donovan, a consultant midwife at Birmingham Women and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is made an OBE for services to midwifery, while palliative cancer care specialist Debra Smith receives a BEM for for services to nursing.

Brendan McGuigan, chief inspector of criminal justice in Northern Ireland, was named Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), for services to justice in Northern Ireland.

Sister Imelda Poole, president of European anti-trafficking network Renate, receives an MBE for services to combating modern slavery. The award is in recognition of her work in promoting the UK Beauty industry, mentoring female entrepreneurs and charitable work within the sector.

The AC is one of the most prestigious of the Queen's Birthday honours - leading civic awards recognising good deeds and significant achievements in the Australian community.

In total 1,057 people have received an award in 2018.
