Former Oregon football player Fotu Leiato was found dead Friday near the site of a vehicle crash in Eugene.

After sunrise, a woman walking near the area noticed a hand poking out of the brush. The driver said initially he was the only person in the vehicle, but it was reported later he lied to Eugene Police and was issued a DUII. Police said the driver told officers on the scene that he was alone and wasn't carrying any passengers. Chavarin was hospitalized and cited for DUI. He was arrested in February and subsequently found trouble with the law again in April when he attempted to remove a parking boot from his vehicle.

Leiato was dismissed from the team last month following his second arrest of the year. He had three sacks in the spring game and was expected to contend for a starting outside linebacker job this coming season. In January, Leiato was charged for misdemeanor trespassing.

'We are saddened to learn of the passing of Fotu, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
