President Donald Trump and the first lady headed to the Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington for a briefing to discuss preparedness ahead of the 2018 hurricane season, which officially began on June 1.

Speculation about the reason behind the first lady's absence has included that she and the president were getting divorced, that she had undergone a plastic surgery procedure and that she had joined special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. "The people love you ... thank you, honey".

She checked into Walter Reed Medical Center for treatment of what the White House called a benign kidney condition May 14 and didn't leave until May 19.

"If any First Lady 'disappeared, ' you'd 'want to know where she is.' Here's our @CNN discussion", Stelter tweeted. He said his organization has suggested several ways of raising awareness about online bullying, includinga marketing campaign or publicity tour.

Mrs. Trump's stay in the hospital was also shrouded in secrecy.

Melania Trump tweeted on May 30, "I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I'm doing".

Trump recognized the first lady in his opening remarks at the event, after tweeting about her scheduled appearance before the press earlier that day.

As Wallace read out Trump's original tweet about not watching "Morning Joe" anymore, she added, "As if he doesn't watch". "The first lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere". In a follow up tweet, he echoed his favorite narrative: "Fake News is really bad!" A USA Today newsletter noted, "Melania is alive and 'feeling great, ' she, or perhaps her husband, says".

Video posted on Twitter showed the first lady, who wore a black sleeveless dress and her trademark stilettos, strolling into the East Room accompanied by the president. As she has acknowledged, it has provoked mockery from some critics because of the president's notorious Twitter habits.
