"Categorically, nobody", Cordeiro said.

Trump, Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto and Trudeau all took to Twitter to post their reactions to the news.

"Congratulations to everyone who worked hard on this bid - it's going to be a great tournament!"

"The legacy of the '94 World Cup, MLS came out of it. Twenty-odd years later everything has come through that World Cup", Jones told The Post.

North America will host the six-team playoff tournament in November 2025 to decide the last two places in the 48-team lineup.

The "United Bid" projected that its tournament would generate more than $5 billion in short-term economic activity, including the creation of 40,000 jobs and more than $1 billion in incremental worker earnings. Based on the United Bid Committee's projections for ticket revenues, average ticket prices might exceed $400, though the committee said in a Wednesday statement that the exact price range will be determined later by Federation Internationale de Football Association.

"What can really be the legacy, whether we host matches or are just involved with this in some other grand scheme, that can make sure that Baltimore and the state of Maryland have maximized the potential of being a part of the World Cup?".

The $4 billion stadium being built for the Los Angeles Rams, due to open in 2020, is also likely to feature.

Before the United States hosted the World Cup in 1994, the sport was in a far different and inferior position.

A total of 23 finalists between the three countries have been selected as possible locations for World Cup games.

While some on social media were outraged by Morocco's loss, others questioned its capacity to host the tournament.

The United Bid was endorsed by David Beckham and there will be 16 host cities across North America with the U.S. holding ten of the 16, while Mexico and Canada will have three each. The North African country claimed 33 per cent of the vote. The president has regularly assailed world leaders, including allies like Germany's Angela Merkel and France's Emmanuel Macron, for "ripping" America off over trade.

England, like Morocco, knows the feeling of falling short in the bid to host the World Cup.

There will be 60 World Cup games in 2026 to be hosted in the USA and 10 in each of Canada and Mexico in the first expanded 48-team tournament.

All that work helped pave the way for Wednesday's landslide victory, a resounding win for the United Bid and landmark moment for North American soccer.

If the numbers hold up, 2026 would set a new record as the best-attended World Cup in history, with an average crowd of 72,500 per game, comfortably eclipsing the existing record of 68,991 set at the 1994 World Cup in the United States.

"We believe this event will become a lightning rod".

The smallest is the 45,000-capacity BMO Field in Toronto, the football-specific home of MLS Cup champions Toronto FC.

To mark the beginning of the tournament, Google on Thursday published the first in a series of doodles celebrating the talent and diverse cultures of each of the participating countries.

The current blueprint calls for Canada and Mexico to stage 10 games each with the US hosting 60.

ESPN reported, also Wednesday, that MetLife Stadium is "expected" to host the final. The United States will host the remaining 60, including the final.
