A nine-year-old English bulldog called Zsa Zsa has won this year's world's ugliest dog contest.

Rascal Deux is held by owner Dane Andrew before competing in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif., Saturday, June 23, 2018.

If you're worrying about the feelings of all the little four-legged guys taking part (I was; I'm not going to lie) then worry not - the ugliest dog competition aims to raise awareness of doggy adoptions and reminds people that all dogs, no matter how unconventional they may look, deserve to be loved. This world-renowned event celebrates the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique.

Last year's World's Ugliest Dog prize went to a 3-year-old, 125-pound (57-kilo) Neapolitan Mastiff named Martha. Crowds cheered when Zsa Zsa was pronounced this year's ugliest. The pooch's owner Megan Brainard, from Anoka, Minnesota, will receive $1,500 (£1,100) following the victory in Petaluma, California.

The dogs and their handlers walk down a red carpet, before being evaluated by a panel of judges. She was almost blind from neglect when she was rescued in Sonoma County, California.

Zsa Zsa's competitors included a blind, hairless Chinese crested mix, a dreadlocked terrier, a Pekingese named Wild Thang and a formerly overweight pup with sagging skin.

At 9-years-old, Zsa Zsa is a victor.

All dogs are good dogs.

Past winners have been rescued from animal shelters and puppy mills.
