In a statement given to the New York Times, Andy Spade told how his fashion designer wife was seeking help for her anxiety and depression but seemed happy in the lead up to her death.

The 55-year-old was found dead in her apartment in NY on Tuesday following an apparent suicide.

Kate Spade founded famous fashion and handbag brand that bears her name in 1993 with her husband. "It was a complete shock".

A statement from the family via in NY spokeswoman on Tuesday had said: "We are all devastated by today's tragedy".

It is thought that in a suicide left for her 13 year old daughter Frances, Kate told her to "ask daddy".

"The contents of that note, as well as the physical state of the apartment and the comments of the witness, lend to the credibility that it is an apparent suicide", says NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea.

Reta Saffo, Kate's sister, has now revealed that she believes she had an nearly life long battle with bipolar.

"She was exceedingly kind, beautifully sensitive, insanely talented, amusing as heck and one of the most generous people I have ever known".

"I am also a very, a nervous person, I worry a lot", she said.

Coach bought the Kate Spade New York company in 2017 for $2.4 billion. Anything else that is out there right now is false.

Late Tuesday, West shared a screenshot of an article about Spade's passing, adding a message of "love" for Spade and her family. "We are deeply heartbroken and miss her already".

"We are all devastated by today's tragedy", the Spade family said in a statement to the Associated Press.
