The American Theatre Wing's 72nd Annual Tony Awards will air live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, June 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS. However, it was heard by those in the audience and journalists covering the awards show, which honors the best of Broadway theater.

Best Revival of a Play: "Angels in America". Then came Robert De Niro, who arrived to present the most anticipated moment of the night - a performance by Bruce Springsteen - and began by launching an expletive at the president, pumping his arms for emphasis.

Between Angels in America and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, this year's Tony Awards were dominated by marathon, mammoth-length plays.

"I avoided so many events with them (his parents) in the past because I pretended that I was not Middle Eastern", said Stachel, whose father is of Yemeni and Israeli heritage.

"I cant believe De Niro did that", Kushner said.

This is Glenda's first Tony Award and she is now the 24th person to win the Triple Crown of Acting - a Tony, an Oscar, and an Emmy.

Sasson Gabai, who played Lieutenant-colonel Tawfiq Zacharya in the 2007 film The Band's Visit, will replace Tony Shalhoub on Broadway in the same role, producer Orin Wolf announced in the 2018 Tonys press room.

"This means a great deal", he said.

The Tonys, hosted by singer-songriter-actors Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles, capped another record year on Broadway with $1.7 billion in box office receipts, despite the smallest number of new productions in 20 years.

The show also won awards for its luminous lead actress, Katrina Lenk, and its director, book and score, among others.

Radio City Music Hall was awash in tears when the drama students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS in Parkland, Fla., sang "Seasons of Love" from "Rent", a show written by Jonathan Larson, who, like the kids caught up in the February massacre at the school, died far too young. She accepted in tears, recounting that when she moved to NY, she was told to change her last name to Matthews or she wouldnt work. And I just want to say how proud I am to be a part of a community that celebrates diversity and individuality. "It just may take a bit longer". Onstage guests were volunteers and staffers from three organisations that bring relief to areas impacted by natural disasters.

Getting buzz from appearing on the telecast can dictate a show's future, both on Broadway and on tour. Attendance was also up, coming in a 13.79 million, an increase of 3.9 percent at last seasons 13.27 million.
