And yet here we are, a few hours later, and you can actually play Skyrim: Very Special Edition. It was pretty amusing, partly because everyone loves to joke about Bethesda continuing to find new platforms to bring Skyrim to and new ways to re-release the seven-year old game. Adding to the satirical theme, the video also featured Skyrim "ports" to an Etch-a-Sketch, pager, and a smart fridge, so it was understandable that people didn't think "Skyrim: Very Special Edition" was happening.

Earlier today, Bethesda revealed the latest Elder Scrolls V spinoff titled Skyrim Very Special Edition. It offered a two minute skit starring Keegan-Michael Key as he played the game on the Amazon Alexa.

According to Polygon, though, you don't event an Alexa-enabled device to play the game.

How Does Alexa Skyrim Gameplay Work?

As far as Skyrim ports go, this one is obviously pretty bare bones - you don't get to select your race like you do in other Skyrim ports, though you do have options when it comes to combat.

So the Alexa Skyrim game basically feels like reading a choose your own adventure book. Skills like Magicka level up as you use their associated abilities, but the game doesn't make a distinction between the different forms of magic like Destruction, Restoration, or adjustment. Regardless, it's a fun easter egg every Skyrim fan should give a whirl. "Yes, that's right, the version of Skyrim you never saw coming has finally arrived on the platform you never asked for".
