Google Home and Chromecast devices experiencing issues

Earlier in the day, when reached for comment, a Google spokesperson sent Mashable the following statement: "We're aware of an issue affecting some Google Home and Chromecast users".

Now, the Made by Google Twitter account is advising users to reboot their devices in order to fix the issue.

Weve identified a fix for the issue impacting Google Home and Chromecast users and it will be automatically rolled out over the next 6 hours.

Some have already reported that affected kit has returned to normal, but many others say problems are continuing.

Saying "Hey Google" to your device is now being answered with: "There was a glitch, try again in a few seconds" or "Hmm. something went wrong, try again in a few seconds".

In the case of Chromecast, users on the Chromecast Product Forum noticed the problem in the wee hours of the morning today - noting that Chromecast icon disappeared from streaming app like Netflix, HBO and YouTube.

On Wednesday, several hours after Google Home speakers and Chromecasts across the world went down as the result of an unspecified "glitch", Google is advising users to reboot their devices to get them back online. If you're still experiencing an issue after rebooting, contact us at Google Home Support. And, if they attempt to reset the speaker, the Homes sometimes can not reboot at all.

It's not just Slack, there's a Google Home and Chromecast outage, too. "We are really sorry for the inconvenience and are taking steps to prevent this issue from happening in the future".

Google was inundated with complaints from people about the issue in New Zealand, Spain, Ireland, India and Argentina.
