First look at 'Wonder Woman' sequel shows Steve Trevor is alive

This is the eighth installment in the DC Universe franchise, and the fourth movie featuring Gadot's Wonder Woman.

On Wednesday, director Patty Jenkins tweeted out the first official photo from the new film, revealing that Chris Pine's character Steve Trevor is back and decked out in '80s fashion.

But the most revelatory thing about these images is that they confirm Chris Pine's return as Steve Trevor.

He posted the first teaser of the film: just a still image, text on a black ground, saying only "WW84". Gal Gadot will also be a producer on Wonder Woman 1984.

Joining her behind the scenes are several members of Jenkins' "Wonder Woman" team, including director of photography Matthew Jensen, Oscar-nominated production designer Aline Bonetto ("Amélie"), and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming ("Topsy-Turvy"). Trevor was Wonder Woman's love interest and a military spy during World War I in the first movie. Johns is credited as a co-writer on Wonder Woman 1984. A vision Diana sees of what might have been, only hella '80s? Kristen Wiig will join the cast as the wicked Cheetah, who has been an arch nemesis to Wonder Woman in the comic book for decades. The film became a massive hit for Warner Bros., becoming the 20th-highest domestic grosser of all time, as well as the second-biggest move of 2017 after "Beauty and the Beast".

Kristen Wiig reportedly plays the villain Cheetah in the sequel that's scheduled to be released November 1, 2019.
