Apple has focused on adding more health and fitness-focused features to the watch to make it less of an iPhone notification accessory and more of a stand-alone device. Gamification has always been central to the Apple Watch tracking experience.

Apple unveiled their newest upgrades and additions coming to the Apple Watch during its WWDC 2018 Keynote presentation in San Jose, California today.

Fitness updates: A new workout type for yoga including heart-rate monitoring and tracking, and another for hiking that helps to measure pace and heart-rate.

The Siri watch face introduced in watchOS 4 will show new content like sports scores, heart rate data and the contextually aware Siri shortcuts that are coming in iOS 12. So even if you press start after you have started working out, you would still be able to see retroactive credits.

With watchOS 5.0, the Apple Watch will also be able to more intelligently detect the beginning and end of workout sessions, automatically logging data if you've hurried out the door and forgot to hit start, while automatically turning off the tracking when it detects that motion has reduced. "We're thrilled with the positive impact Apple Watch is having on people's lives", said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer. But experts these days generally say the overall outlook for smart watches has shrunk somewhat from the original promise: that smart watches were going to become ubiquitous.

Adding contacts to Walkie-Talkie requires users to send a one-time request to another Watch owner, after which they can trade short voice recordings instantly over either Wi-Fi or cellular connections. For starters, you can now raise your wrist and instantly talk to the assistant, skipping the "Hey Siri" trigger. Apple also showed the GymKit which connects the Apple Watch with types of equipment in a gym.

Back to messaging apps, and web content is now available in your messages on your wrist. You can view a version of the site on the phone, while previously that was unavailable.

Notifications from third party apps will now allow you to interact with different elements directly from that notification too. It's about time, Apple. This year also does things do not seem to be very different.
