Wake Forest women's golf tied for fourth at regional

Texas A&M senior Maddie Szeryk advanced as an individual to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship in Stillwater, Oklahoma, finishing the NCAA Austin Regional in second place with a 7-under 209 after a final round 72.

Freshman Gurleen Kaur shot 1-under 71 and finished tied for 12 place at 3-under 216, while senior Amy Lee also carded a 1-under 71 to tie for 24 place at 3-over 219.

Sophomore Courtney Dow shot an even-par 72, her 20 career round of par-or-better.

Usually the queasy feeling in a players stomachs while competing at NCAA Women's Regionals are simply due to the pressure of trying to help your team finish in the top six after 54 holes and claim a spot in the NCAA finals.

The Deacons finished the day at 3-under and are tied for fourth place with Clemson and Tennessee after the first of three rounds. She had one par and one bogey on the final two holes of the round, No. 16 and No. 17. "I didn't even realize how good it was until she finished on the last hole". No. 14 Florida (+3) and No. 41 BYU (+3) round out the top six teams going into the second round Tuesday.

The three individuals moving on to the NCAA Championships are Nicole Schroeder (Oregon State), Gabby Curtis (Wisconsin) and Erin Harper (Indiana). The report says, in addition to replacing coolers with individual bottles of water, tournament staff placed hand sanitizer throughout the course and clubhouse.

"This team has bought in all year and as their coaches it is extremely hard to see them come up just shy yet again", coach Dawn Shockley said. Toledo's Pinyada Kuvanun and Indiana's Erin Harper pulled ahead of Basso by four and seven shots respectively.

Stephenson's 14-under placed her second in the field of 96 players.

Sharp started her round by birdying three of the first five holes.

"I started off really strong", said Kaur in a statement, "but I missed my birdies on Nos". But I knew that (Maria Vesga) was already out.
