An Amazon spokesman later confirmed to Seattle Times that the company plans to open Amazon Go stores in both locations, but did not specify when exactly. The city already has an Amazon Books store in its Southport Corridor neighborhood that serves Stumptown coffee, which once scored very highly in our taste test of the best iced coffee brands.

Shoppers enter the stores by scanning a smartphone app. Customers use an app called "Go" to enter the store.

Amazon Go, Amazon's cashierless convenience store, is coming to San Francisco and Chicago. "My teenage son couldn't care less", wrote one Washington Post contributor.

The company opened an Amazon Go store in Seattle in January and has another store planned for San Francisco. A specific timeline for the IL store is unknown at this time. The expansion was mentioned earlier this year, with a total of six new stores set to arrive this year. The 11 key-factors they looked at include restaurants participating in Prime Now, Amazon bookstores, free two-hour Whole Food delivery and Amazon Lockers.

As they move through the store, each item is added to their digital tab.

In addition to these two new locations, there are allegedly still a few more Amazon Go stores waiting to be built. If they pick something up but then put it back, the store knows it and removes the item from their virtual shopping basket.

The Seattle stores sells ready-made sandwiches, salads and other lunch items as well as drinks, desserts and snacks.

According to CNN Money, Seattle's location doesn't use Whole Foods branding but does stock the 365 brand that the chain specializes in.
