When it comes to specifications, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 is based off of the 10nm process technology. "By incorporating key AI capabilities and performance advancements, the Snapdragon 710 is created to transform our customers products into the ultimate personal assistant, enhancing critical everyday consumer experiences, such as high-end camera features that will benefit from on-device high-speed AI processing, without sacrificing battery life", said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Qualcomm announced its new Snapdragon 700 series back in February and it's now making the first of the two chipsets to lead the lineup official. The 710 Mobile Platform, Qualcomm explains, will bring certain "premium-tier" features to a wider mobile audience.

The Snapdragon 710 is promised with twice the AI performance on the SD 660, which Qualcomm hopes that manufacturers will use for improving voice-based UIs as well as improvements in photography.

Other notable features of Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 710 processor include a Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, which brings support for download speeds up to 800Mbps as well as LTE technologies like 4×4 MIMO and License Assisted Access.

All these new features on the Snapdragon 710 offers something that is not exactly a flagship chip but is more powerful than what is being offered by the existing mid-range options. Qualcomm claims to have used an advanced AI engine along with the support for Snapdragon Neural Processing (NPE) SDK and Hexagon Neural Network to achieve up to 2x overall improvement in terms of AI performance compared to its previous gen chipsets.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform is available now and should start appearing in consumer phones in the second quarter of 2018.

Image processing is also an area where the 710 seems to push ahead of the 660.

For graphics, you get Adreno 616 GPU which offers 35 percent faster graphics rendering, while decreasing power consumption by 40 percent while gaming and watching 4K HDR videos compared to Snapdragon 660.

The Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform is the first in the newly defined 700-tier, offering technologies and features previously only available in our premium-tier mobile platforms, said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

When combined with Quick ChargeTM 4+ technology, Qualcomm says users can charge their batteries up to 50 percent within 15 minutes. With AI at heart, the Snapdragon 710 also enables real-time bokeh effects, thanks to active depth sensing and deep portrait mode.

Other notable features of this new SoC include: Bluetooth 5, Qualcomm Broadcast Audio and Stereo Plus. It is part of the Snapdragon 700 series that was announced a year ago.
