Pompeo promises N. Korea future 'brimming with prosperity' if it denuclearizes

The US secretary of state has said the United States is willing to help North Korea with its economy if it gets rid of its nuclear weapons.

"While the North Koreans say that nuclear disarmament should proceed stage by stage, taking into account reciprocal steps and in the absence of a threat from the United States, the U.S. side insists on North Korea's transparent and unconditional denuclearization", the expert noted.

"We had good conversations, substantive conversations that concerned deep complicated challenges", Pompeo stated about his two conferences with the North Korean chief who is understood for assassinating rivals and relations, and operating jail camps all through his nation.

Nauert also discussed the recent actions between Iran and Israel, with Cuomo, and said it's "unbelievable" that there are some who would blame Iran's bombstrikes on Trump's decision to end the United States' part in the Iran nuclear deal.

"We'll require a robust verification program, one that we would undertake with partners around the world which would achieve that outcome", he warned.

However, experts told VOA there is a gap between the United States and North Korea regarding the steps toward denuclearization, with North Korea continues to press for a phased and incremental approach.

Trump's national security adviser John Bolton recently said, when it comes to denuclearization of North Korea, "We have very much in mind the Libya model".

"No president has ever put America in a position where the North Korean leadership thought that this was truly possible, that the Americans would actually do this, would lead to the place where America was no longer held at risk by the North Korean regime", he said, adding, "That's the objective". Moon later brokered the meeting between Kim and Trump.

KELLY: Talk to me a little bit about the plans for the Trump-Kim summit. "That's part of what Secretary Pompeo has painted for Kim Jong Un, that they have a brighter future ahead of them if they follow through on their commitments".

But both Kang and Pompeo insisted that they agreed on the need for the "total, complete, permanent and verifiable" denuclearization of the divided peninsula. He's speaking the day after he returned from Pyongyang with three American detainees released by North Korea.

But, despite the optimism of that moment, all efforts to limit North Korea's nuclear program have so far failed.

Mr Lee also invited Mr Trump to come to Singapore again in November this year to make a state visit, in conjunction with the 6th ASEAN-US Summit and 13th East Asia Summit. Is he prepared to give up nuclear weapons in exchange for the kind of assurances that the U.S.is ready to provide?

A summit in Pyongyang, North Korea's capital, would have been a tremendous propaganda coup for Kim, who desperately craves global legitimacy.

On Thursday, US Vice President Mike Pence praised Kim Jong Un for making moves toward peace, but expressed caution.
