Person detained after gun report at California high school

The injured student is expected to make a full recovery. Witnesses who were outside the school described hearing gunshots and seeing students running from the building.

After police spent about two hours at the high school, Highland's principal tweeted that officers "have control of the situation". School was set to begin at 7:30 Friday morning.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it was responding to a shooting at Highland High School, according to its official Twitter account.

"That student is going to be OK", he said. "Apparently, the person was already apprehended", Maldonado said.

Deputy Charles Moore says there is no confirmation of an actual person with a gun or any shooting. A former student was arrested. Earlier, the department tweeted that that a "possible shooting" was reported around 7:00 a.m. PT.
